CodeHouse Inducts Third Cohort of STEM Scholarship and Mentorship Program Scholars

Twenty-five incoming HBCU freshmen will receive financial support, mentorship, technical training, and internship opportunities throughout their undergraduate careers

ATLANTA – CodeHouse, the 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on tackling the diversity gap in the tech industry, today inducted its third cohort of CodeHouse Scholars. As members of the CodeHouse Scholars Initiative (CHSI), these incoming freshmen – all committed to study at Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) and major in a tech-related field – will receive up to $20,000 in academic scholarships, professional development, one-on-one mentorship, and more as they matriculate.

“We couldn’t be more ecstatic to welcome these talented students into the CodeHouse family today,” said Ernest Holmes, CodeHouse’s President & Co-Founder. “Now more than ever, the tech industry needs diverse perspectives and leaders to shape the future of innovation as we know it. We’re confident that our newest Scholars are ready to step up to the plate.”

Founded in 2021, CHSI is a four-year program dedicated to preparing Black, Latinx, and Native American students for careers in STEM through technical training, scholarships, internship opportunities, and more. Made possible by support from CodeHouse partners UNCF and Sony, CHSI’s third cohort will begin their CodeHouse journey with a four-week paid Summer Bridge Program to prime their professional and technical skills before they begin their collegiate careers at one of CodeHouse’s institutional partners – Clark Atlanta University, Howard University, North Carolina A&T State University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College.

“Over the last two years, we’re proud to have built the CodeHouse Scholars Initiative into a competitive, transformational program that has already shaped the career trajectories of more than 60 students,” said Jaycee Holmes, CodeHouse’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction & Co-Founder. “As we look to bolster the next generation of tech leaders, we’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from our committed partners who have joined us on our mission to increase diverse representation in tech.”

To celebrate the commencement of CHSI’s third cohort, CodeHouse hosted an Opening Ceremony with its newest Scholars and their families, as well as special guest speaker Kendra Proctor Goldbas, PayPal’s Global Head of Learning & Development. Before heading back to Morehouse College for the remainder of their Summer Bridge Program, attendees also had the opportunity to have professional headshots taken and network with representatives from CodeHouse’s network of corporate and institutional partners.
